June 30th Fishing Report

June 30th, 2010  |  Published in Boston Harbor, Fishing Reports by allison

Great success was reported this week by those who searched far off shore for deep holes and big fish. Joe Aria of the “Never Too Easy”, caught 12 keeper Cod using the Rubber Chicken lure complimented with the Esca multi-blink. The Esca is proving to be universally successful no matter what species you target.  The proof is in the poundage. Team GoPogy caught 2 – 3 pound 2 oz flounders using this above the yellow grubbed flounder rig over at Governor’s Flats. Believe it or not, the flounders are still going strong. These “go to” fish were caught at the Deer Island Flats, Governor’s, Hospital Shoals and Rainsford….a few were even caught off of Faun Bar. This season of flounder fishing may just make last year seem like a “slow” season for this fish.

Ernie Sardillo, from Karma Charters, reported great success this week with Striper fishing. Back to back trips produced 35-40 inch fish over at Middle Ground and around Graves, taking chunked bait. The 9 drop and 13 drop 9ER rigs were also used and caught decent sized and large numbers during the top of the tide blitzes all over Boston Harbor and Quincy Bay. The Harbor has been full of green back herring and small sea herring, with Stripers and Bluefish in the mix. The blitz action has been closer to the top of the tides with at least 60 boats Saturday afternoon taking advantage of breaking 35-40 inch fish along the main channel from Deer Island Light to Castle Island.

Many anglers took advantage of the PM tides at the beginning of the week, swimming live eels, with great success all along Court Road, Peco Beach and Deer Island. Deer Island is such an asset to the fishing community of Winthrop, Revere, Everett, East Boston and Chelsea. This fishing Mecca draws numerous shore fisherman, kayakers and boaters alike each year to Winthrop and the fish never disappoint.
